Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at fame with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels and was later dropped from them prior to there was a release date for any of her recordings. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention due to its jolly title. I kissed a Girl - an ode to sexual curiosity dropped a couple of months later. It had a hard electro-pop style and an assertive stance. The song was controversial, as critics criticized it for encouraging relationships with a partner and others claimed that it portrayed a racy scene which appealed to men's fantasies of sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl was a smash hit for Perry's The One of the Boys in 2008 due to the mix of sexual enthusiasm and polished music. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the song that was its second biggest hit proved popular. The album which Perry composed herself sold more than three million copies.
